Independent artists clock up over 6m sales in new IMPALA Awards list, with Platinum for The Prodigy and Diamond for Placebo and Arctic Monkeys.
IMPALA announces its latest batch of 60 European sales awards, including Platinum for the latest Prodigy Album ‘Invaders Must Die’ and Diamond for Placebo’s ‘Battle for the Sun’. The Arctic Monkey’s new album ‘Humbug’ has gone Gold in a month and the interest has boosted their second album ‘Favourite Worst Nightmare’ to Diamond. The longevity and long-lasting appeal of albums by the Buena Vista Social Club and Ibrahim Ferrer has been shown by their sales rising to double platinum and diamond.
The new winners include one Double Platinum (1m), two Platinum (500k), two Diamond (250k), twenty four Gold (100k) and thirty eight Silver (30k) from all across Europe.
The increase in IMPALA sales awards demonstrates impressive performance in the independent sector, especially considering the general economic downturn.
In total some 600 awards have been registered so far, representing approximately 60 million CDs sold and one billion euros in revenue.
About the Awards
The IMPALA Sales Awards are the only pan-European awards devoted to independent artists. They are the first awards to recognise that success on a pan-European basis needs to be acknowledged on different levels. They celebrate the fact that achievement and success begins well before 1 million (the only pan-European sales level officially recognised before IMPALA launched its own scheme).
The IMPALA Sales Awards are an extra tool for independents and their artists to market themselves internationally. IMPALA’s on-line certification system is available at www.impalamusic.org where framed awards can also be ordered.
The awards are part of IMPALA’s wider strategy to create new opportunities to promote independent music, real entrepreneurship and cultural diversity, in the face of increasing concentration.

Impala Silver 30 000
Impala Gold 100 000
Impala Diamond 250 000
Impala Platinum 500 000
Impala Double Platinum 1,000 000
Impala Multi Platinum 1,500 000 ++
