IMPALA announces Europe's best selling independent artists - 100 new silver, gold and platinum awards for Adele, Caro Emerald, Sofia Karlsson, Warpaint, Oliver Pocher, Lichtmond, Bebel Gilberto, Morcheeba, Agnes Obel, and The National among others

IMPALA has received a record number of registrations for the first announcement since the adjustment of the award levels to better reflect the evolution of music sales in Europe, with awards from all over Europe showcasing a wide range of genres.
The phenomenal success of Adele’s album “21”, which topped the charts across Europe and worldwide, was rewarded with Six-Times Platinum, while her debut album “19” has also been upgraded to Four-Times Platinum. Germany’s Söhne Mannheims and Xavier Naidoo both go Platinum, while Yolanda Be Cool & DCup’s summer hit ‘We No Speak Americano’, and The XX’s album ‘XX’, have now been upgraded to Platinum. New entries for Diamond include The National with their latest album “High Violet”, Caro Emerald and her debut album “Deleted Scenes from the Cutting Room Floor”, Frauenarzt & Manny Marc’s “Das Geht Ab”, The Disco Boys’ “For You” and Benjamin Biolay’s “La Superbe”. The list also includes upgrades for 2 Many DJ’s’ album ‘As Heard on Radio Soulwax Vol.2’ to Platinum and Morcheeba’s ‘Blood Like Lemonade’ to Gold. The awards illustrate the independents’ cultural diversity and talent, with other winners from across Europe including Agnes Obel (Denmark), Paleface (Finland), Bring Me The Horizon (UK), Modà (Italy), Sofia Karlsson (Sweden), Asa (France), and Albert Frey (Germany).
The latest IMPALA Awards continue last year’s trend and demonstrate impressive performance in the independent sector, especially considering the general economic downturn. The new winners represent over 150 million euros in sales, with 16 Platinum (400k), 5 Diamond (200k), 19 Gold (75k) 7 Double Silver (40k) and 62 Silver (20k) from all across Europe.
In total over 770 awards have been registered so far, representing over 72 million CDs sold and €1.1 billion in revenue.

About the Awards
The IMPALA Sales Awards are the only pan-European awards devoted to independent artists. They are the first awards to recognise that success on a pan-European basis needs to be acknowledged on different levels. They celebrate the fact that achievement and success begins well before 1 million (the only pan-European sales level officially recognised before IMPALA launched its own scheme).
The IMPALA Sales Awards are an extra tool for independents and their artists to market themselves internationally. IMPALA’s on-line certification system is available at www.impalamusic.org where framed awards can also be ordered.
The awards are part of IMPALA’s wider strategy to create new opportunities to promote independent music, real entrepreneurship and cultural diversity, in the face of increasing concentration.
The new award levels are:

IMPALA also has two other awards, created to celebrate IMPALA’s 10th anniversary; the European Independent Album of the Year Award and the Outstanding Contribution Award, which are announced annually. Mario Pacheco was honoured with the inaugural Outstanding Contribution Award and Efterklang’s Magic Chairs won the first Album of the Year Award from a list of 21 nominations
Helen Smith, Executive Chair of IMPALA, presented Sofia Karlsson with a Silver Award at the Manifest Gala in Stockholm in February, for her album “Söder om kärleken”.
