Merlin Calls For Nominations For Its Forthcoming Board Elections
Elections to be held July31 – Aug 14
Inaugural Board 2 Year Term Drawing To A Close
Merlin, the global rights licensing agency for the independent record sector, has begun the process of electing its new board. The new board will commence sitting when Merlin’s inaugural board’s two year term comes to an end in late August.
Over the past two years, Merlin’s inaugural board has overseen the development and launch of Merlin - widely regarded as a landmark development in the representation of the global independent sector in the online market.
The new board will be elected from within the ranks of Merlin’s global membership, which represents the largest basket of rights outside of those held by the four major labels and a market share in the US alone of over 9%. Member labels include the world’s leading independent labels and distributors such as the Beggars Group, KOCH/E1, Epitaph Records, [PIAS], Curb, Domino, Warp, Naive, !K7, Edel, Kontor, Finetunes, Cooking Vinyl and Tommy Boy.
Artists signed to Merlin member labels include Arcade Fire, Arctic Monkeys, Adele, Anthony & the Johnsons, Basement Jaxx, Battles, Bjork, DJ Khaled, Franz Ferdinand, Infadels, Jose Gonzalez, Maxïmo Park, Mogwai, Morcheeba, Radiohead, Royksopp, Soulwax, Stereo MCs, Tom Waits, Vampire Weekend and The White Stripes.
Any owner, CEO or senior executive of a Merlin member company is eligible to stand for election, including current board members. In order to ensure the broadest possible representation, the Merlin board will continue to be split equally across Merlin’s three operational blocks - with five board members each to be elected from North America, Europe and the rest of the world.
A final list of nominees and voting instructions will be confirmed by 31 July, 2009 with the election to run from July 31 to August 14. The new board will sit for a two year period commencing August 27.
Merlin CEO, Charles Caldas said: “We have been extremely fortunate to have such an experienced, passionate and dedicated inaugural board in forming this organisation. It is now time for the members to elect a new set of representatives, and I am confident that we will see another remarkable set of people ready to contribute to Merlin’s ever growing importance in the market.”
