NIELSEN MUSIC AND IMPALA RADIO CHARTS HIGHLIGHT MOST PLAYED INDEPENDENT ARTISTS IN 2012, NEW REPORT PUTS SPOTLIGHT ON DIVERSITY OF EUROPEAN RADIO

IMPALA OBJECTS TO EC APPROVAL OF UNIVERSAL/EMI MERGER

The independents welcome the EC’s conclusion that Universal’s power is a problem across the whole market, both digital and physical, including access to media. The Commission’s insistence on tough remedies, despite strong positioning by Universal, is also applauded, as well as its clear rejection of arguments that piracy and larger online players are restraining forces.

IMPALA WELCOMES REPORTS OF EUROPE RAISING SERIOUS DOUBTS ABOUT UNIVERSAL’S BID FOR EMI

As press reports circulate of findings of “serious doubts” during Europe’s initial market investigation into Universal’s proposed acquisition of its thriving competitor EMI, IMPALA welcomed the prospect of a detailed second stage investigation. EMI – OPPOSITION TO UNIVERSAL AND SONY MOUNTS AS REPORTS CIRCULATE OF REGULATORY FILINGS IN EUROPE

As reports circulate of regulatory filings in Europe weeks after the USA, independent music companies confirm their opposition to the proposed sale of EMI to Universal and Sony, the world’s biggest music companies. Protest is also spreading at national level, following initiatives led by independent associations such as AIM in the UK, while European body IMPALA fully expects regulators in both the USA and Europe to block the transactions outright.
