MUSIC SECTOR AND TECHNOLOGY COMPANIES JOIN FORCES TO COMBAT STREAMING MANIPULATION

Brussels, 20th June 2019

Today a code has been signed by a group of technology companies and music sector organisations including IMPALA to agree best practices to combat stream farms and other forms of streaming manipulation.

The code sends a clear message that this will not be tolerated and is part of a bid to ensure the online world is a level playing field.

Helen Smith commented: “Streaming manipulation is costing the independents a fortune. Last year we commented on the situation with Tidal and that was just one example. It’s vital we all work together to ensure a fair and sustainable online world.”

About IMPALA

IMPALA was established in April 2000 to represent European independent music companies. 99% of Europe’s music companies are SMEs. Known as the “independents”, they are world leaders in terms of innovation and discovering new music and artists – they produce more than 80% of all new releases and account for 80% of the sector’s jobs. IMPALA’s mission is to grow the independent music sector, return more value to artists, promote cultural diversity and entrepreneurship, improve political access and modernise perceptions of the music sector.
