OVER 100 ORGANISATIONS CALL FOR CULTURE TO BE AT THE CORE OF EUROPE’S RECOVERY PLANS

Brussels, 2nd November 2020

110 organisations from across the cultural and creative sector have published a joint call on the EU and its Members States to place culture at the core of each and every recovery plan.

These organisations – representing millions of European creators and cultural and creative businesses – ask that at the very least 2% of each national Recovery and Resilience Facility budget is allocated to the cultural and creative sector, in line with the European Parliament’s recent call in its Resolution on the cultural recovery of Europe.

Letter to National Governments_EU CCS.pdf

These letters comes as Europe finds itself at the beginning of a second wave that will undoubtedly increase the impact of the pandemic crisis on the economy as a whole, and culture in particular.

Cultural and creative sectors are among the most seriously impacted by the pandemic. Cultural activities are being halted, millions of jobs are frozen or wiped out, micro and small businesses are on the brink of bankruptcy and many talents are forced to leave the sector altogether.

While some first steps have been taken to support the sector, much more is needed at EU and national level.

A joint social media campaign is planned on Tuesday 3rd November, when signatories and supporters will be invited to share social media posts using the #actforculture and #cultureneedsmore hashtags.
